Pristina. The Pacific island of Samoa has recognised Kosovo's independence, becoming the 46th nation to do so, the government of the breakaway Serbian province said Tuesday AFP reports.
"We received a written note from the government of Samoa in which they recognised the independence of Kosovo," foreign ministry spokeswoman Albana Beqiri told AFP.
In the message, Samoa expressed hope that Kosovo's independence would help to achieve "stability in the region" of the Balkans.
Ethnic Albanian-majority Kosovo declared independence from Serbia on February 17. It was promptly recognised by the United States and most of the European Union but rejected by Serbia and its ally Russia.
